Wonderful place to stay in the Berchtesgaden area.

Hi,

I guess I'll be the first to post here!

Another trip to the Christmas Markets and another wonderful stay at the Guesthouse Friedwiese in Schonau am Konigssee, which is just a few minutes from Berchtesgaden. We stayed here in late Nov. 2010 and had such a wonderful visit we decided to stay again in late Nov. 2013. The rooms are large, comfortable and spotless. The Friedwiese is set pretty far from the main road (very quiet here) and has gorgeous views of the snow capped peaks. The breakfast is very good and incl. in the room price. What really makes the Friedwiese a special place to stay is Helga Eder, the owner and host. While she can always suggest something to see or do in the area, she is someone who makes you feel at home immediately. Nothing is too much trouble to make your stay more comfortable. While the Friedwiese is an excellent value located in a beautiful, central area for visits to the Berchtesgaden area, Salzburg and even the Salzkammergut, it's Helga that will keep us coming back.

This looks like a beautiful place to stay! It looks like there is train service to the area? Do you feel we would need a car if we stayed at Guesthouse Friedwiese and from there visit Berchtesgaden area as well as Salzburg or could be get around by train?

Thanks!

Hi shoop56,

We always have a rental car when traveling. I know there's a train and bus station in Berchtesgaden, which is less than 5 minutes away. I also know the Guesthouse Friedwiese sits a short distance off the main road, maybe a 5 to 10 minute walk. I'm sure if you were interested, the owner, Helga Eder, could give you all the info you needed. She knows just about everything about the area.

I do know our other recommended place I posted here, the Pension Mayringerlehen, is just a few minutes walk to the bus stop in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, which is just 10 minutes from Berchtesgaden. It's also easy to walk to the village of Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden.

I do believe from Berchtesgaden's station, there is bus service throughout the Berchtesgaden area and to Salzburg.
