Rick suggests a wine tasting in Zell from Cochem. We actually stayed at Schloss Zell in Zell and spent a nice afternoon in the town. The TI is helpful though, quite frankly, there isn't mush there except our ancestors' bones. TI offers directions to a 90 minute hike up the hills and through vineyards which provides terrific vistas. Also, Rick suggests wine tasting with Peter Weiss -- sad to say Peter died in 1982 and his shop is now run by his grandson. There is not an "interesting" presentation but there is a menu of tasting sized pours of many Reislings -- I'd suggest one each of qualitatswein, then a Kabinett, and then a Spatlese. This is a stepping up in quality from one to the next and I could actually tell the difference! We also traveled downriver to Cochem on the Stadt Zell, an excursion boat and the trip takes about 2.5 hours -- very scenic and a small bar service is available.
