Restaurant reccomendations in Munich?

Hello fellow travellers and diners!

My husband and I are planning our first vacation in Germany in August. While we're in Munich, we're planning to meet German friends who used to be our neighbours in Canada. We've never been to Munich before and they don't know the city well enough to recommend a restaurant where we can meet for a great meal and an evening of catching up so I'm turning to the Rick Steves community for suggestions. If you've recently had a great dining experience in Munich, please let me know the name of the restaurant and what you enjoyed about it.

My husband and I were recently in Munich, we enjoyed Donisl, just off the Marienplatz and the Ratskeller in the basement of the Rathaus. We love Munich, enjoy your trip!

Everything we ate in Munich was delicious - way back in 2015.

I would choose Spatenhaus for a great meal and a good visit. Great service, a bit more formal than a beer garden, but not stuffy.

We were in Munich recently and our favorite meal was at Pfiftermuhlen. You can google for menu and photos of beautiful food. The huge beer hall Augustiner was fine for a beer but I cannot recommend the food. House specialty was Weinerschnitzel and it was tough and chewy. Weisses Brauhaus is nice for lunch--we had beautiful salads and asparagus soup----nice atmosphere.

Munich is full of good food - but our all time favorite is Preysinggarten.
