Restaurant/cafe recommendations in Munich

I would appreciate recommendations for cafes or restaurants in Munich. Looking for family owned, ideally non touristy spots. Best kept secrets?
Our hotel is not far from the Hofbrau House, and will be sampling several beer halls, so looking for other options.

(I would be interested in the same type of places Vienna)
Thanks

you should post this in DESTINATION Q&A section == GERMANY. You can also do a search for this above in the SEARCH BAR.
More people will see it and help you there. The section you have it posted in is a place for YOU to give US a REVIEW of a place you've been.

Since you are staying in the old town of Munich, you are also very close to the OUTDOOR BEER HALL -- there are lots of great, local places within that area. We also love an Italian place that is small, quaint, family-run called Vino e Gusto - they have a website that you can change to ENGLISH and make RSVP.

In Vienna- there are LOTS of great places. Grill House da Max. Wiener Wiaz Haus - super authentic, great food, amazing service family-run - one of our favorites. Prustner. Vinothek W-Einkehr ==== family run wine bar with GREAT food.

Some of the beer halls are good for a night out. After a morning in the Englisch Garten, I stopped by at Cafe Lehel, a nice little coffee shop where they speak English and have wonderful non-sweet cakes. I had the banana cake.

I agree with Heather. I was going to recommend Augustiner. There is one close to the train station and one very close to Marienplatz. The one be the train station was less "touristy" at least the night we were there.

Augustiner-Keller is an excellent experience. A extremely large beer garden. Augustiner-Braustuben is small and the food is vey good.
