Pension Gundert near Eltz Castle treated us in like family

I highly recommend Pension Gundert in Cochem along the Mosel River. We were really treated like family by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Gundert. Though I am bilingual in german, they speak english well. Before we left for our trip based on Rick Steve's book, I broke my ankle, but was determined to go anyway with the protective wrap and large boot on my leg. And I didn't miss much in Italy either. Our scheduled time and plan to climb to Burg Eltz, my first castle, was at the end of our trip, so I figured I would manage this walk from the Moselkern train station alright. But I think Mr. Gundert figured that the 10 km total round trip walk might be too much for me, so he insisted on driving my daughter and me to the foot of the hill, cutting out the train trip there and at least 3 km walking. This enabled me to thoroughly enjoy the beautiful walk and castle tour!
The owners also lent us an umbrella unsolicited. Plus since we had to catch a 6 am train the next day, they made up a breakfast package the night before, especially customized to our dietary wishes. They offer a wonderful buffet breakfast with plenty of protein and yummy homemade jams. Our large room was very clean, comfortable and overlooked the Mosel River. Simply delightful. We will definitely return for a much longer stay next time!
