Must do Experience in Berlin

I shared my experience on Chef PJ's food tours in Paris. I had an incredible time.

Finding myself in Berlin as a solo this past week, I went searching for something in the evenings after work. Beer Tours, Pub Crawls, the normal...and then I found the not normal. A cultural tour followed by a multi-course dinner with wine pairings for a very reasonable price, and it was the same company as the Paris Adventure. They are in Seville and Berlin now. No guides, only the Chef/guide.

The tour was great, taking place in a non-touristy part of East Berlin where there was so much history to see. Then, a 1920 apartment (take your shoes off at the door and no smoking), and the food seemed never-ending. House made charcuterie, salads and vegetables, a pasta course and an ancient New Orleans recipe, Daube Creole with potatoes Anna. Wine was flowing, and as a solo, I never felt awkward with the group.

Everyone who works with Chef Tours is from another food tour company and chose to do something better/different than the standard 5 bites on the street. This was my best experience in Berlin and without question the best meal I have had for a long time.

Thank you so much for your post. I am not a tour person (sorry Rick), but your post inspired me to book one of Karl's tours to make the most of our short stay in Berlin, which it most certainly did. Karl's philosophy of getting lost when you travel (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/get-lost_b_10114730) fits so perfectly with his tour. It was a fascinating evening, visiting sites we would have never found and sharing lots of laughter mixed with some serious life issues. Karl brings a wealth of life experience from both what he has done and from his family. His grandmother emigrated to the US from old East Berlin and he spent his childhood summers in Berlin. His immediate family ended up in New Orleans then Minnesota and he ultimately in New York. Berlin is now the place he has chosen for his home and he generously shares his depth of knowledge and the richness of the place with you. If you have the chance to go with Karl to see a slice of Berlin and share a well prepared meal, do.
