Munich hotel for first time visitor late July 2025

Hi! Looking for hotel suggestions for 3 adults, centrally located. Planning for 3 days in the city for on foot exploration. Not looking for high end, ideally less than 250/night, US.

A little more info might be helpful for those who have suggestions....

  • are you looking for 3 single rooms, or 1 room for all 3 of you
  • if 1 room, does a double bed & sofa work or do you need 3 single beds (that is probably difficult, but at the same time narrows things down).
  • are you willing to potentially have a shared bath?

Are you willing to sacrifice location (to some extent) for cost? The Munich
public transportation is excellent so you might be able to save $ by getting a
bit away from city center.

Late July is not that far away so the best value places have probably been booked
already.

I appreciate the replies. Ideally, 1 room 3 beds (queen/king and a single). Trying to stay away (if possible) from a pullout. No shared bath (a hard stop for my wife and daughter).

I'd rather have a location close to things and pay more, than to save a little but a further stay away. I suppose this is more of a question of where to stay in Munich, never having been there and traveling back to the States with this short detour.

We stayed at Hotel Uhland. It is in a residential area by the Oktoberfest grounds and a metro line. It was a 10-15 minute walk to town center and the train station. It is a beautiful mansion converted to a small hotel/BnB. A wonderful breakfast was included, at least at the time we visited. I was traveling with my two adult sons. Our room had three beds, and I recall they also had "family rooms". It is a moderately priced property.

A quick query on booking.com shows a decent amount of options for hotels with
2 beds/3 people and between $200-$300 per night (note, I don't know your exact
dates).

I would suggest you try the query and then check hotel room configurations to
see what looks best. You should expect some rooms to be pretty cramped, maybe
just a double room with another bed stuffed in. But pictures may give you some
idea of how things are configured. Also, if the hotel website shows the # of sqm in
each room type, you can get some idea of how much space you might have. You
can also see the map with hotel locations to check whether it works for your
sightseeing needs.

I know you asked for recommendations, but, your ask is fairly specific, and unless
you want to go with one of the other posters' suggestions, it really does make
sense to do some of the diligence on your own. I suspect most people who
respond have not actually stayed in a room for 3 and no one wants to be in
a cramped hotel room for 3 if they can help it.

You're pretty late for hotels for a month away. We like Hotel Schlicker - they also have apartments that may work better for you with 3 people. Hotel Platzl is also great, but a little more expensive. They are basically across the street from each other and a less than one minute walk to Marienplatz. I don't know the prices for the Summer, but we pay less than that when we go there in the Fall and in December for the Xmas Markets.

The Platzl has rooms that will work for you - not sure if they have openings for July anymore. But the hotel is great, the breakfast is fantastic, and the location is extremely central but still quiet.

I’ll add that I just looked at the Platzl for random days in July and the big rooms that sleep more than two are way over your budget unfortunately.

Take a look at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt. It is very centrally located, and they have triple rooms with read beds, no pull outs. We have stayed there a few times, always with 4 adults, and the rooms we have had were extremely spacious. Private bathroom as well:) I don't know the summer cost of it, but in Dec. 2024 we paid just over $200 for it as we were there for the Christmas Markets and prices were higher.

Thanks all. This has been helpful. We will need to bump up our budget, so thanks for all the input.

Final question for those of you reading this, is there any area of the city we should not consider (safety reasons) in that we like to get up early, explore all day, then stay out into the evening.

I'd stay close to Marienplatz - it's the old town where all the action, shops, restaurants are.

Matt I would suggest to avoid the area around Hauptbahnhof/Central Station. OK to use the trains of course but no area for a nice walk at the moment.
