My husband and I are traveling to Munich and want to go out to the Neuschwanstein Castle but really just want to bike around the lake and go to the bridge to take photos. We book a lot of bike tours through Viator and have always been pleased. Anyone else have any luck with doing this in Munich to the Castle? The trip has an optional Hohenschwangau Castle Visit or bike tour.
Forget Viator - they're just a reseller who sells you products from other companies. Mike's Bikes is the biggest bike tour company in Munich and Amsterdam. I've forgotten how many bike tours we've booked with them, but it's been several. They also have a trip from Munich to Neuschwanstein via bus where you will be hooked up with their bike tour. It's a nice time. Of course the entire trip would probably be more enjoyable if you were to just spend a few nights in Schwangau Horn and take the the hotel bikes around wherever you want to go.
Thanks for the tip with Mike's Bikes. We love biking around natural beauty
For what it's worth....
We just came back from an awesome trip that included Munich and the castles. In hindsight, we would have stayed a couple of days in the Schwangau area for biking and nature exploration beyond just seeing the castles. You can bike around a couple of different lakes in the area, endless green fields and little winding roads through the countryside, there are three castles, you can drive a loop through Austria. Up at the castles themselves is another lake, as well as tons of hiking trails with amazing views. It seems like most hotels or small towns in the area have bikes you can use/rent, and the land is very flat up to the base of the mountains.
As far as Mike's Bike tours goes, we used them for a tour of Munich and had a blast. I would imagine their trip to the castles would be excellent as well.
