mittendrin Boutique Hotel Berlin

The reviews section needs a post. So, here goes...

I love Berlin, and I'm sad that I'm going to miss my annual May trip there due to COVID-19.

Part of what makes Berlin special for me is mittendrin Boutique Hotel. It's essentially a 4-bedroom B&B in an early 20th-century building just off Ku'damm near Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in the former West Berlin. The facade of the building has been replaced; but it has great internal bones, and it has been updated in a manner that respects its history.

The most special part of the B&B is its lovely owner, Sabine. She is a former stage actress from Munich who opened the Pension as her second act. Friendly. Funny. Eager for her guests to have a great time in Berlin. She also makes a spectacular breakfast that has to be seen to be believed.

Transportation connections are great with the Ausburger Straße U-station less than a block away, the Wittenbergplatz U-station (and buses) 2-3 short blocks away, and the Zoologischer Garten U/S-station about a 10-minute walk away.

When it came time to cancel my reservation this May, I offered to pay for the room anyway by e-mail. Sabine responded (Google translate version):

...it touched me very much that you want to pay. But please dear Dave,
you do not have to pay for this, this is force majeure and I do not
want to charge any cancellation fees. But a thousand thanks for your
offer. I do my best to get through the middle of the Corona crisis and
then we have a party with red bull and champagne, if we can see each
other again in spring next year, that would be great.

A very nice response. I love mittendrin and highly recommend it. (And, yes, I have a Red Bull problem.)
