Luxembourgh Hotel suggestions

We will be staying in Luxembourg City for 3 nights, May 19 - 22, and looking for lodging. The hotels I've found appear to be more business hotels. Can anyone recommend a local hotel with some charm the big hotels might not have?

I always follow RS books but this time he doesn't have Luxembough in his tour books and I'm really missing his research and ideas for this trip!!

Have you checked out the Luxembourg City Tourist Office or the Visit Luxenbourg websites? They both seem to have info on accommodation.

I stayed at the Hotel Simoncini but it's been a few years.

Nice hotel, great location. The owner also owns an art gallery so there is art displayed throughout the hotel.

I have a couple but they are all in the countryside, not in the capital.

We stayed at the Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal during our 3 night visit in November. This may not be what you are looking for as it's a large hotel but I'm sharing because it offers easy access to public transportation to visit the Mosel wine area, American Cemetery and a host of other areas if you are visiting by public transport (stops are just outside the doors.) It is also an easy, flat walk in to the heart of the old town. I felt the location was better than I had anticipated so worth mentioning. Enjoy your visit!

If you have an interest in WWII, there’s an amazing museum in Diekirch , just a short distance from Lux City. After the Battle of the Bulge, farmers gathered up the equipment, vehicles, uniforms, etc. that had been left in their fields. Eventually they moved it all to Diekirch into this museum. It’s filled with life-size dioramas … rooms full of artifacts … a parachute hanging from the ceiling … and letters & photos on the walls from soldiers who had fought in the battle. We found it fascinating.

All public transportation is free in Luxembourg. If you take the train or bus to Diekirch, you’ll likely change in Ettelbruck, which is a lovely little town worth exploring.

Other interesting places in Luxembourg are the Family of Man photographs, now on permanent display in a chateau in Clervaux. And the lovely castle in Vianden.

We loved Luxembourg and got so busy exploring the beautiful countryside that we never even made it into Luxembourg City.
