the question is a little broad.
I usually personally stay just out of town but have also stayed just down from the station.
Amenity level, desired extras, quint, modern, airbnb, hotel, hostel, parking, stairs, breakfast or not, price point, rural, urban, chain or independent - all or even some would help to suggest possibilities.
Do you need golf access?

Lodging is SO subjective. However if you need a place to start or think about what your parameters are, I stayed here for one night in December and really liked it.

We have an upcoming trip to Germany that includes 2 nights In Heidelburg, we are staying at Hotel Hollander Hof.

We stayed at the Hotel Heidelberger Hof in Heidelberg during the recent Christmas Markets and found it to be very convenient and just around the corner from the Hauptstrasse. Easy walk to all the sites. Very nice included breakfast. Rooms very nice. Front desk staff were very helpful. If you visit the castle, be sure to visit the Apothecary Museum there!
