Hotels in Aachen

I am traveling to Aachen with my daughter this November for the Christmas Market. I'm looking for suggestions on accommodations near the market/ city center. We will be arriving via train. Thanks for all suggestions!

We've stayed in the Mercure Aachen am Dom. It was not a long walk to the Christmas markets and the hotel itself is quite nice. The attraction for us was that it is part of the Accor stable and they have a loyalty scheme (the free one, not the paid one). If you belong to it you get reduced rates in booking or upgrades to better rooms (obviously you have to book with the hotel or with Accor directly, and not with booking.com).

There might be hotels closer to the markets but this filled our needs amply. We drove and they do have a car park but it's a little walk to the hotel.

Good luck and enjoy Aachen, the Christmas market there is lovely.

I loved Aachen! Outside of the markets, make sure you visit the cathedral, which is quite beautiful (especially the interior, which is drop-dead gorgeous) and houses the remains of Charlemagne, leader of the Holy Roman Empire. The town is also very charming and has a lovely vibe to it. Don't miss the Granus tower, which is next to the Rathaus (town hall) and is one of the few pieces remaining from Charlemagne’s palace. It dates back to the 8th century, making it over 1200 years old.

I've really enjoyed our visits to Aachen, although I will say that never have we visited in winter.

Another thing that we really enjoyed beyond Mardee's points is the very pleasant therme, Carolus Therme Bad Aachen, https://carolus-thermen.de/en/home/ where we (my wife and I, not Mardee and me) have spent many a happy hour or several.

I still use a hairbrush that I bought just behind the cathedral at least 20 years ago - good quality.

Be sure to have some local speciality Printen. Yum. And some are really beautiful.
