Hotel Uhland -- Munich

This is a Rick Steves' recommended hotel and I see why. It is in a fairly quiet neighborhood, it has charm while being efficient, the staff was extremely friendly, and it was clean. We walked from the main train station without any difficulty (assuming you packed lightly). It is outside the main downtown, but also away from the less-than-pleasant streets that are closer to the old city. I believe it was 100 euro/night including breakfast for two. If I return to Munich I will definitely stay here again.

Do you mean, perhaps, the Hotel Uhland? Auto-correct might be messing with you.

Darn that autocorrect -- and being up way too early the first morning back from Germany!

It's funny you mention the "less than pleasant streets" closer to the old city. Actually those lesser-than-pleasant streets are around the main train station. The closer you get to the "old city", the altstadt, the LESSER you see of those seedy train station areas.
