Hotel Schlicker, Munich, reservation problem/review

I hope this was a one-off problem, but I want to share my experience as a warning to others for any hotel booking. I reserved two nights at Hotel Schlicker for my last two nights in Munich, booking directly through the hotel's website. When I booked, their booking page specifically said "free cancellation until 6pm the day prior to check-in." I booked my room. As is my habit, I note cancellation deadlines on my phone's calendar, looking at the confirmation as I do so. The room confirmation said "free cancellation 30 days prior to check-in." I emailed the hotel for clarification, including screen prints of both. They confirmed the 30 days. I emailed them back telling them this is not acceptable. I then cancelled online.

I just want to make everyone aware to check your hotel confirmations. What is on the hotel's website may not be on the confirmation.

Oh, I might not have thought of that! Thanks for bringing this up...and no 30 days is not acceptable.

-->Off to check all current reservations to make sure they say what I think they do, hahaha!!

That was a very good catch. I'll make a point of double-checking the wording on my confirmations in the future.

It seems to me a lot of websites aren't being kept really up to date these days. I don't know whether IT resources are inadequate or it's a matter of hotels, etc., pinching pennies to make up for revenue shortfalls over the last few years.

Checking confirmations is also a good practice for big chain reservations!!! I recently made a reservation on the website of one of the biggest chains that listed parking at an "extra". cost of 20€ per night or 70 € per week . When I got the confirmation Email from the hotel it listed parking at 25 € per night with 'nary a word regarding a weekly rate...
Buyer beware ( AKA Emptor Caveat ) !!!
