Read recommendations for Hotel Klosterstuble in Rothenberg. It looked charming, just what we were looking for, and was ready to book - when I saw the bedbug post on TripAdvisor. Any other recommendations for hotels in Rothenberg with the same cozy charm?

Why not contact the hotel and ask them for their side of the story, and ask that you not be assigned to the room with the putative bedbugs? There is only one "terrible" review on TripAdvisor and the reviews contemporary with the "bedbug" review don't mention them at all.

So sad when this occurs as someone brought them in prob in their luggage.
In any case it is very difficult to rid the bed bugs without an extermnator.
Best stay at another location.

or it could be posted by a competitor. not every Tripadvisor "review" is always unbiased or true.

On Booking.com, which does restrict reviews to people who actually stayed at the hotel, we once saw a review of a hotel in Salzburg complaining, amongst other things, about bedbugs in room x -- we had been in the room next door AT THE SAME DATE and wrote a glowing review. No problems in our room.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I contacted the poster on TripAdvisor directly. He is a regular poster, seemed sincere and didn't disparage the hotel other than to state their experience as he posted. It is possible that they've contained the problem to the one room, maybe even eradicated it. I'm going to keep my eyes open on forums to see if anyone else has a similar experience.

We've been to Rothenburg on 5 different occasions and stayed once at the Klosterstuble. We had no problems. Other favorite charming hotels are the Eisenhut, Hotel Mittermeier (just outside the wall), and Hotel Reichs Kuchenmeister.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I contacted the person with the problem by email and identified which room with which he had the issue. We ended up staying at Hotel Klosterstuble last week in the very room he had complaints about. It was perfectly fine. In fact, it was probably the nicest room we stayed in during our two week trip! Glad I took the chance!

I wonder what was going on with the person who wrote the poisonous review?
