Great Chemnitz Hotel

I‘m sitting here waiting for a concert to start, so what better to do than write a hotel review? Chemnitz is not a common destination, but if you have reason to be here…

Hotel an der Oper. Communist architecture outside. Communist architecture inside that has been updated a bit. Café Moskau is next door. 🙂

It‘s certainly clean and comfortable. What makes a stay at the hotel great is a room on the Theaterplatz side of the building, where you get a great view of the square with its impressive church, opera house, and King Albert Museum. I am sitting on the square now waiting for my concert to begin. I could have watched the concert from my window, but I would rather be with the people on a 59 degree night with rain an hour or two away.

My single room was 59 euro without breakfast.

The concert... the German band Revolverheld... was great!

Sounds about right for a city whose former name was Karl-Marx-Stadt. It's the birthplace of the two-time Olympic figure skating champion from the DDR, Katarina Witt.

I too am glad you could be on this trip and have events to attend! If you stay in any other interesting hotels in this neck of the woods please consider giving them a review too. I had a beauty picked out for Görlitz but our airline cancelled our flights. We hope to be in this area next summer so I’m always looking for interesting hotels, especially ones that might have a view.

There still is a huge monument of Marx's head in front of one government building. He was festively adorned with a top hat for an upcoming street art festival.

Mona,

Görlitz is on my list of places to visit. I'm thinking something like Dresden - Saxon Switzerland - Görlitz. I would love to hear about the Görlitz hotel you found -- even if you haven't stayed there yet.

We were having a hard time deciding between these 2 in Görlitz so hadn’t booked any yet. Hotel Frenzelhof https://frenzelhof.de/ or Hotel Tuchmacher http://www.tuchmacher.de/index.php/das-hotel.html. I had us stay in some favorite and less expensive hotels in Dresden and Leipzig, Motel One, just to have one of these hotels in Görlitz. I could do a tour of Frenzelhof, it looks so unique, historic and beautiful.
