Gasthaus near Train station or bus stop, south of Munich

I will be in Munich for three nights at the end of May. I currently have a reservation at a Hotel in south suburban Munich. I was thinking I might rather stay in between Garmish and Munich and take transportation into the Munich City Center for a couple of days. Can anyone recommend a nice Gasthaus in this area that is convenient to public transportation, so as to make easy day trips into Munich? Thanks in advance.

Twice I've stayed in Oberammergau at Gästehaus Richter. It's closer to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, about 1H50 from Munich, but an easy train ride (change trains, 13 min, in Murnau). Gästehaus Richter is only about a block from the Bahnhof in Oberammergau; Frau Richter speaks excellent English. It has easy access to Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Füssen, and Linderhof.

Tegernsee or Schlersee are closer to Munich but not as accessible to GaP, Linderhof, and Füssen.

It depends how far out of Munich you want to be. The mvv site provides the S-bahn lines and their stops. I plan to stay in Starnberg with bus access to Kloster Andechs, and S-bahn access to Munich. Trip Advisor or Booking will provide a selection of hotels and Gasthäuser to choose from for any given S-bahn stop/village. Google maps can show you walking distance from your Gasthaus to the S-bahn stop. You might be guided by other direct rail connections to Garmisch and other points rather than traveling to the Munich Hauptbahnhof only to transfer and head south again.
