If you have a chance, stop into Olivia's Diner in Dortmund. Big and juicy, cooked just right with homemade buns. The cheesecake is to die for. Don't miss out on this jewel.
BTW I forgot to mention this is a 50's style diner....also, they have plenty of tv's to watch your favorite football games. Don't miss the 2015 Super Bowl Party of February 1
Thank you for the recommendation. I keep a notebook with restaurant recommendations so we can try new places. I adore cheesecake so this sounds perfect for us.
Bergers in Germany remind me of a colleague's story about the month spent in a town in Germany observing tests. He is a good old boy when it comes to food. Seeing hambuerget on the menu he ordered the hamburger. A ball of raw ground meat with no sesame seed bun arrived. Being a well done kind of guy he made the wait person take it back and have it grilled to a well done state.
With all the interesting food in foreign countries an american hamburger must be the ultimate comfort food for extremely stressed out travelers. This was the case when we dismounted a bus at the Kyiv bus station, a worn out soviet era building underneath freeway overpasses and amid parking lots. The only place to gain sustenance was a McDonalds. BigMacs and fries! Pretty plain but by golly it did the job.
Hi,
Thanks for this food tip. It has been a few years since I last passed through Dortmund Hbf but on this coming trip going back to Frankfurt Hbf in June, I'll have to change at Dortmund Hbf. How far is this diner from the station? Having that Dortmunder beer with the burger would fit the bill.
