Berlin Hotel recommendation for Berlin Marthon 2025

Hi Dear All,

I'm so excited to get a lottery entry to run Berlin Marathon on Sunday Sept 21 2025. I will fly in from US on Sept 18 and plan to leave Berlin on Wed Sept 24. I will travel solo. As I'm looking for hotel to stay, could you share some booking tip and tricks, hotel recommendations to secure a room in Berlin. I'm looking at more budget options - clean / comfortable and nice location to get to the marathon starting line, and also easier for some sightseeing during my stay. Don't need to be fancy or upscale. It will be my first trip to Berlin, so I would like to take some time to see the great city as well.

I have done some reading on this great site as well, and know the options like Motel One etc. but can't find one which is ideal for both cost and location. I'm looking at 150 euros or lower per night if possible. I'm not sure if that is reasonable for hotel room. I'm not interested in hostel though.

I appreciate any recommendations for hotels during my stay in Berlin. Any booking tips such as if I should book directly or any Berlin hotel booking sites (other than booking.com etc) would be greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much.

I am a big fan of Motel One. Last year I stayed at the location across from the Berlin main train station, Hauptbanhoff. It was in a safe area, and convenient for catching the bus, taking the tram, and walking to nearby sights like the Bundestag. There were also some good, affordable eateries in the station, as well as in the nearby office tower in front of the station. I have no idea where the marathon begins. You may want to look that up on Google Maps, and then find a hotel nearby. I always book directly with the hotel, and never go through booking sites - I've read of too many unpleasant issues when people have done that. If you decide to stay at Motel One, become a member, and you get a free bottle of water and a free breakfast during your first stay.

I would also recommend Motel One. I stayed at the one near the train station and found its location was great. The hotel was also very nice, comfortable, clean, and with a lot of amenities for a very reasonable price.

I stay at the Hotel Ibis across the street from the main train station. It's just out the side door. Easy to get anywhere from there on public transportation, etc. Food available all around the station.

Bing, I would also agree with alohalover that booking directly is always the way to go, if possible. I've been traveling for decades and always book with the hotel. It's safer, in case of any problems, and in many cases, cheaper.
