Baden-Baden Waldcafe Hotel & Restaurant

For a stay in Baden-Baden, I would like to highly recommend the Waldcafe Hotel which was annexed to the historic Waldcafe Restaurant in 2012 in the forest of the Merkur mountain -- easily reached by bus 205”M” (runs hourly with 30 min from train station to last stop Merkur Bergbahn) or by car (follow blue signs to Therme and then white arrows to Merkur Bergbahn then just before the Merkur Bergbahn, follow sign to hotel). We are 65+ seniors and have stayed at several places in Baden-Baden over the last 15 years – all great - but with waning strength and vigor we now appreciate the value and amenities of this hotel – although the hotel and restaurant will suit the needs of any one, any age. The room rate includes breakfast buffet in a beautifully decorated room surrounded by the garden with fresh fruit in season, freshly brewed coffees or tea, eggs any way, even champagne. Amenities are free parking right at the door, elevator, cozy “Badisch” indoor and outdoor garden restaurant with a large selection of Badisch fare and a large selection of home made tortes and cakes, quiet forest surroundings with many hiking trails, a kneipp foot bath over the hill, wildlife area within 1km walk, Merkur cable car where there are two parasail takeoff pads for the younger folk and many benches for us older folk to watch. Waldcafe has been a lovingly run family business for the last 40+ years with the most gracious hosts and staff eager to please. The hotel has 10 single and double totally non-smoking rooms, 2 with balcony and one disabled. Our double room 9 on the 2nd floor (90 euro/night -- 98 for short stay) was very comfortable with (1) a large tiled bathroom with a large walk in shower and lovely vanity with lots of drawers; (2) large vinyl floor living/bedroom with large armoir, sofa, desk, king bed, flat screen TV; (3) balcony overlooking the woods with large wall to wall windows and door to balcony which opened inward and top tilted for the cool night air; (4) free wireless internet (ask for login). To make reservations, just email the hotel. Details are on their website.
