Finally got housing deposit back $1000 in NOK

Any idea what to do with $1000 in Norwegian currency? Leaving Norway Sunday. Options seem to be:

  1. Take it to Oslo Forex Saturday and exchange for US $ losing 5%?

2, Take them with me to Sweden and go to a bank Monday and change them to Swedish crowns and try to spend them there?

I would choose option 2, if you're in Sweden for a few days and/or still have lodging to pay for. After all, if you paid your Swedish bills with a credit card or just withdrew new cash there from an ATM, there would normally be some fee associated with that, too.

Scandinavian banks don't seem to have issue with converting crowns to crowns, at least they didn't last time I was there in 2016, and they give a much better rate than the FX booths. I would try that option.

In Stockholm, most bank branches no longer handle cash inside the bank (although they still have bankomats to dispense bills. I know when I closed my bank account in Sweden a couple years ago the branch that I went to could not give me cash and directed me to their main branch,

You have two more days in Norway. That could easily account for a couple hundred. In Sweden, I’d exchange only what you expect to use for Swedish kronor.

I’d heard that banks have stopped exchanging bills and Forex was the only option. Problem with waiting for Sweden is than any unchanged NOK would have to be double changed to $ so then lose 10%.

If you change directly from NOK to SEK in either Norway or Sweden, you don't go through USD, and don't have a double exchange. If you have any coins, be sure to do it in Norway, since most Forex places only accept coins of their home country. If it's just notes, either Norway or Sweden would work.

I won 700 pounds in a London casino the night before I was leaving to come home. Handed it over to my daughters and wife who were staying another week. :(
