I am planning a day trip to Yvoire from Montreux. From what I have read, it is about a half day trip. I plan to leave Switzerland early in the morning so I can take my time. Is it worth a visit to Evian as well?
Train + boat from Montreux to Yvoire and back is a lovely journey, but it takes a while: it is a day trip, rather than a half-day trip.
Maybe start with Yvoire, and when you are done assess the time you have left and see if you want to try going to Evian?
But I would rather walk to Nernier (tinier, quieter lakeshore village) or to the Domaine de Rovorée (the latter has a lovely lakeshore path)
Thank you. I will look into them.
I thought I saw a boat from Vevey, but I will take another look. I haven’t quite decided where to stay on the Swiss side.
The regular boat to Yvoire leaves from Nyon. There are some from Lausanne in spring, summer and fall but it takes 2 hours. None from Vevey as far I can see, but it is easy to reach Nyon by train from Vevey (although Nyon is hilly and there is quite a walk from the pier to the station).
Thanks for checking.
We used Yvoire as a base to visit Annecy.
