Yes, travel in France is complicated now

We arrived in France this morning, 03/24/23.
So far, we’ve spent 3 hours getting through airport Customs, and our TGV train to Bordeaux, booked four months ago, has been cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.
For more nimble travelers, those more familiar with travel here, or those planning a long hang out in one place, the travel disruptions are probably manageable. For this trip and these travelers: yes, I should have cancelled this project when it was still possible to do that. We have a series of pre purchased train tickets, but we can’t expect any of them to happen as planned. If you’re not a nimble and/or experienced traveler, consider waiting it out.

I’m sorry that your train was canceled with such short notice. This must be so frustrating. I want to say that I hope you get back on track, but that just doesn’t seem like the right expression, given the circumstances.

Thanks for the reminder to know the options. I understand they’re doing maintenance work on the Bordeaux line and we’re going out of a different station than the usual one. If you have time, we’d like to know how this turns out for you.

Yes, I definitely want to know how your trip turned out. Did you make it to Bordeaux? Asking because my sister is flying in to Paris in early May and immediately taking the train to meet us in Bordeaux on her arrival day. I had given her a cushion of about 5 hours to make it to the train station. I hope you were able to salvage your trip.

M Boyer, I am so sorry to hear about your train to Bordeaux. I had planned that for my daughter, from CDG to the TGV/Bordeaux. The layover was really long, so we opted for a flight to Bordeaux instead. Luckily, this is for June, so all may be well by then. I hope the work on the Bordeaux-Paris train is competed by then, as my husband and I are taking the TGV from Bordeaux to Gare Montparnasse on June 19, before our flight home on the 20th. Will you get a refund on your tickets? I hope that by now everything is going well for you. Enjoy your holidays!
