Hi, I was wondering if we can use Yelp to look for restaurant while we will be in Paris. We will be staying in the 7th Arrondissement and might do daytrip to Colmar. Thanks!
I thought in France it was called "Le Yelp." (LOL)
You can also uses Google Maps. If you click on a restaurant in the map, it will bring up information about that restaurant including reviews.
Thanks a lot!
Some other websites for foodies....
Michelin not only awards stars to top-of-the-range restaurants, it also recommends “bib-gourmand” ones:
https://guide.michelin.com/en/fr/restaurants/all-starred/bib-gourmand/the-plate-michelin
Its competitor which does not award stars but "Toques" (chef's hats) is the Gault et Millau guide:
https://fr.gaultmillau.com/search
And "Tables et Auberges de France" :
Thank you very much. It will be very useful.
I (because most of France seems to use them) use l'internaute https://www.linternaute.com/restaurant/ or Petit Futé https://www.petitfute.com/adresse/restaurants/
The fork is another subsidiary of TripAdvisor, and like most of their stuff not as good as first appears. I've never met anyone except American tourists that use it.
I think you have to pay for this now and so I use it any longer but if you’re really into food, Paris by mouth is generally a very good resource.
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions!
I know it gets a lot of opprobrium from "experienced travelers," but TripAdvisor has proven to be an excellent resource for my wife and me when choosing restaurants in Europe.
My use of TA for choosing restaurants abroad:
I look at the proportion of reviews in each language.
If there isn't a very large majority of reviews in local language (let's say 80%), I won't go there.
Whereas I couldn't care less whether a restaurant's clientele is predominantly local or predominantly tourist.
If the food's good, the food's good, regardless of who's eating it.
I might look at sites like Yelp, The Fork, and Tripadvisor, but I find them only useful for awareness, maybe as a start for more research.
I do like a site like TimeOut, the reviews are more curated, not just random people and marketeers adding glowing reviews. The other thing I like to do is look for Blogs, search for "Paris Food Blogs" and you eill find all types of sites where a person gives their perspective. You can pretty quickly get a sense of the persons style and taste, if you find something that matches your tastes, then usually lots of good info. Blogs usually will also feature lesser known restaurants, allowing you to find some real gems.
