WW II - Lt Patton P-51 Crash Site La Longuevill France

Been reading about WW II Lt Patton, his remains and P-51 were just recovered a few years ago, I would like to visit the P-51 crash memorial at La Longuevill France, the P-51 room at Fort Leveau, village of Feignies France and Normandy France. I have not been to Europe, I would fly to Brussels Belgium from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Brussels seems to be the closes place, then rent a car,
visit these places, drop off the rental car at Calais France, get the
English Channel Tunnel Train to the UK and fly home from Heathrow. How do like my plan…

Well it's a great plan, I am going to be visiting the Normandy DDAY sites this April. However your plan does have one big flaw...Dropping off a rental car rented in Brussels in France will incur a very heavy additional charge that MAY NOT be shown in the price if you are looking at aggregator sites like Kayak, Orbitz etc.

Be sure you contact the rental car company directly to get ALL the charges. It might be easier and cheaper to take the fast train from Brussells to Paris rent your car there and return there then get the train thru the tunnel.

Because I am curious, who was Lt. Patton? Did he distinguish himself as an aviator?

I too was curious about Lt. Patton, and just finished reading about him. Another member of the Greatest Generation.

Or you could take a train from Brussels to Charleroi, Belgium and then take a bus from there over the border to Maubeuge, France. Google shows a bus makes this run every hour, and it takes about an hour and a half. If you could rent a car in Maubeuge (not sure this is possible) it would avoid the high drop off costs.

I would also consider a highspeed train from Brussels to Lille in France with more options renting a car and from there to La Longeville/Maubeuge following toll free A23 to Valenciennes and also four lane D649 for the final leg.
