I was just listening to Rick's interview with David McCullough on the Wright bros. McCullough suggested visiting La Mans ( southwest of Paris) where Wilbur flew his first public flight on 8-8-1908. we are going to be in paris on October and I would love to go there. Just not sure what I'll find. we are only there for a few days so we have to be stingy with our plans. can anyone help?
Le Mans (not La if you want to search the internet) is quite some distance from Paris.
Will you drive or take a train?
thank you - i understood it was not too far away. i think i'll have to wait for another (hopefully) trip to try to visit LeMans
I can recommend a visit to the Air and Space Museum at Le Bourget airport just north of Paris. There is a lot to see about the pioneering period of aviation, but very much focussed to the French side, nevertheless worth a visit. It´s the airport where Charles Lindbergh landed after his famous Trans Atlantic Flight, but didn´t noticed much about it, maybe I overlook it as there is so much to see.
