We were in Dijon in March and we took the France guidebook’s advice and hired Colette Barbier to give us an all day tour of the regions near Dijon. What a tour it was! We pride ourselves on our wine knowledge, but Colette helped us not only realize we didn’t know that much, but also filled in essential steps and tools when tasting wine. Her knowledge is so vast that we could tour again with Colette and learn many more things. She’s a wonderful guide and very kind. We highly recommend taking a wine tour with her!!

Ron, sounds like a lovely day. Do you mind sharing how much it was? And sharing a little more about your trip and how the day fit?
Happy to provide more details.
Our tour started at 9:30 when Colette met us at our apartment in Dijon. She is licensed to drive the tour persons' cars, so she drove our rental to show us around. Much better for us as we are not having to fry our brains with directions. You are driving thru medieval villages, so roads are narrow and there’s lots of quirky issues to deal with, (crazy turns, disconnected intersections). Our tour cost was $350 each for 2 people. That did not include lunch, but we went to a great family owned bistro outside of Dijon and was great, perfectly reasonable cost, Colette paid for her lunch. I think our cost was approximately 35 euros for our portion.
We visited 3 excellent wineries, all family owned and on the small production end of the scale. Our your ended at 6pm. There was so much we did, that it would be hard to list it all. We stopped up at the Romanee Conti Vineyard and many other historic and important sites.
Best,
Ron
Thank you very much. I have not yet been to this area (on my “eventual” list), but am never interested in trying to transport myself on a wine tour.
This was your first post (welcome to the forum) so you may not know we have a whole section for Trip Reports, meant to help future travelers. So all the information is most welcome - I hope you’ll hang around and post more!
Thank you! I plan to report about our trip after Dijon as we went to Lyon, Nice, Aix-en-Provence, Norbonne, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Bayeux/Normandy. I'll check out your recommendation. New to this.
Hi R8string,
How'd your trip go?
-- Mike Beebe
Mike - the trip was fantastic! Seriously considering spending much more of our time in France than the US.
Excellent!
I'm heading to Lyon and Dijon in April, so I was hoping you'd post some of your experiences.
Also, do you recall how much Colette charged for your tour? I'm looking for a wine tour from Dijon right now.
Thanks!
-- Mike Beebe
Mike - Collete charged $350 per person. If you are into wine I strongly recommend her. Tour lasts all day.
In Lyon there are lots of fabulous places to eat. Fork is the app to use in France. We found Iit very helpful in finding great places to eat. Essential to visit the amphitheater and adjacent museum. Both are amazing. Lots of ancient finds back to 1,000 BC. Incredible to see.
Along the rivers you can do long walks too!!
Hope you a great trip!!
The wife and I are off the Greece, Turkey and Italy soon. Ten weeks in total!
r8string,
Thanks and enjoy your upcoming adventure -- sounds like a great trip.

Thanks for this. We've scheduled a tour with Colette in September and can't wait!
That is awesome to hear! She's wonderful and you will learn so much. Each Burgundian winery she will take you too will be completely different as will the wines, but they will all be interesting and enjoyable. Have a great time!!!
Best,
Ron
One of the challenges one faces in evaluating the cost of a tour like this is how good (and therefore costly) are the wines that one gets to taste. In Burgundy the "good" wines are very expensive indeed. One's expectations obviously dictate one's satisfaction with a tour like this.
Unfortunately I've learned that the Burgundy wines I enjoy are priced too high for me to afford. I'd guess a tasting tour I'd enjoy would approach five figures for the day.
It would seem that way but it wasn’t. Most of the wines we tasted were between $40 to $100. All in we did go over $1000, but not by that much. One note is that we bought our wine before Trump raised tariffs, so I could see wine being a bit more due to that. Given that the all day tour was $700, that is t too bad. We bought a total of 18 bottles.
I'm very happy you found the value and the experience so positive! Everyone has different preferences and expectations, and I truly hope others have your good experience!
