Wine experiences in Paris or through a day trip?

HI my hubby and I will be in Paris without kids in September and are wine lovers. Any suggestions on something wine related that would be a fun outing either in Paris or a day trip? We'd love to do something vineyard related just don't know how realistic that is at this point. Thanks!

It's possible to do Reims as a day trip, but it will be a loooong day and a rushed to boot. You should be able to do it justice with a one night stay if you get there early in the a.m. and leave late the next p.m.

If you go, two restaurants come to mind. Across from the cathedral (which is interesting because of the Chagall glass) is Au Bureau with outside tables and is good for lunch. The other is Le Gran Café on Place Drouet across from a hotel with a similar name. Great food -- ate there twice!!

We went to the Martel champagne place and found it to be very interesting. It is easy to get to on the city bus from the area of the train station.

The Museum of the Surrender (?) where the peace treaty ending WWII is also well worth a visit.

The part of the Loire Valley closest to Paris by train is an option, but like Reims, it would really require an overnighter.

My experience has been different from several above: I have done Reims as a comfortable day trip from Paris. The TGV (high speed train) gets you from Paris to Reims in about 45 minutes (it hits 150 mph on some stretches).
See the Day Trips section of Rick's book, Paris, for the details.

Thanks everyone for all the comments. I think we will do an overnight trip to wine country :-)
