We are travelling to France in October for the Rugby World Cup, and part of our trip includes a couple of nights in Burgundy. We're staying at a little B&B close to Beaune - La Saura. We are looking to visit a couple of wine estates while there, preferably small independent producers that offer reasonable pricing (as much as Burgundy wine can be reasonable). Ideally in or close to small pretty villages around Beaune, so that we get the benefit of walking around somewhere charming as well before or after. Any suggestions would be welcome - thank you!
The nature of the wine business in Burgundy is different from what it is almost anywhere else. Wine estates are operated by negociants who may or may not own the land or even part of the land from which their grapes originate. Vineyards are not generally setup for visitors, particularly those who do not speak French.
My strongest recommendation is that you find a guide, someone who knows the operators and who has access; someone who is in the business of tourism.
Also check the Offices de Tourisme of both Dijon and Beaune

Also, October is harvest time. Small vineyards may not have time for visitors.
