If we end our winter trip in Paris January 2-7 next year, will all shops and restaurants be open? Or will this be like in August when lots of shop owners and chefs take a break? Thank you.

This is a big city -- it doesn't close down -- if someone decides t take a vacation there will be dozen similar spots you can go. It isn't a problem in August either for the tourist.

Thanks for your reply. For us, it was a problem in August. All of the cute optical shops in the Marais were closed (and I wanted stylish glasses!) plus all of the restaurants our friends mentioned. I don't want to have only big tourist destinations as our only options.

We have missed little shops in August too when staying there for several weeks. But in a big city there is always plenty that is open. It is disappointing if you have a particular small shop in mind.
