Wildfires affecting rail traffic in the South of France

Hopefully JoLui, who lives near there, will have a report about what’s happening. It was reported yesterday that the fire had been extinguished, so who knows.

It’s pure speculation but perhaps SNCF anticipated the possibility of a delay through this zone. We’ve had delays where water was distributed. I don’t remember about food.

I think isn31c means Rivesaltes (and not Rivaltes).

There have been major wildfires across the entire region for a few days now; villages and campsites have been evacuated, and quite a few homes have been completely burned down. There was still an active one yesterday in Trévillach, a few kilometers from Narbonne, but I don't know any more than that. I'm much further north. I think Elizabeth must be just as hot as it is here.

The wildfire season is just beginning. Everyone planning to visit the south of France this summer and travel in the countryside should check with their accommodations / hotels. It can be very localized, but there are areas completely burned and roads closed.

The SNCF had announced the preventive cancellation of about 30% of trains due to the new heatwave currently hitting the area, which could cause track failures. But no one can predict a new fire outbreak.

I hope isn31c's friend will be able to reach their destination without too many problems. It's around 38°C right now; being stuck inside a train in this heat must be unbearable, even with an SNCF rice salad bowl. :-)

As for the cancellations, most of the July 14th fireworks in the region have been canceled due to the fire risks. The biggest one, in Carcassonne, is still scheduled.
