Who Was the Real "Shaved Woman of Chartres"?

I am gifting this NY Times piece about the woman at the center of a famous Robert Capa photo. - a woman cradling a baby in the middle of a jeering crowd, her head shaved and her forehead marked with a swastika.

Chilling, both the reality and that a book would bend realty as fiction trying to humanize such a monster.
