I'm looking for a hotel at CDG for 1 night before flying home from Paris. I know a lot of you recommend the Ibis hotel but I see that there are 5 Ibis hotels around Roissy. Which do you recommend? What are the differences? Merci.
I stayed at the one right at the Airport train shuttle stop Terminal 3.

You don't want one NEAR CDG; you want the one AT CDG. At the airport not in Roissy.

Why do I want one AT the airport, not NEAR it? (I failed to explain that we will be flying in from Genoa, not taking the RER to arrive at the airport.) Taking the hotel shuttle to the hotel and then back again the next day is OK with us.
We stayed "near" the airport once -- early-morning shuttle to the airport was jammed (standing room) with people and bags, couldn't see out the windows because they were fogged up from all the passengers so we were not sure where to get off, took about 45 minutes. Now we stay at Ibis IN the airport, walk to the CDGVAL train that runs between terminals every few minutes. Ibis Paris CDG Airport Roissypole.
I have also stayed at the Ibis in Roissy not at the airport.
The shuttle bus filled up to the point where the driver could not close the doors the one time I took it.
This is maybe why you would want to be at the airport; though the hotels are cheaper otherwise in Roissy
Thank you all for explaining (and describing!) that to me. I now see why I should stay AT the airport.
However, in fairness the restaurants in Roissy may have a broader range of choices than is available at the airport. For our last dinner in France we ate at ... McDonald's.
Very generically, if you’ve seen one Ibis you’ve seen them all. It’s a budget chain hotel so most will be similar. There seems to be an Ibis Styles Paris at CDG for about $100 a night.
In addition, check out the Novotel, which is a little more "posh" than the Ibis. Both are Accor Hotels and can be booked on the Accor website. Be sure to book one that shows "CDG Terminal" in the name because there are several of them in the immediate area. Both are just steps away from the CDGval shuttle train connecting the terminals.
We usually take the RER into Paris for late afternoon, dinner and a last stroll around Notre Dame before coming back to the airport when we stay there before a flight. The food options are grim out there and Paris is so lovely. It does add the travel cost of about 40 Euro for a couple -- worth it to us.
I would recommend the IBIS Styles right at airport. We stayed there and the rooms were decent and had strong wifi. Its about a 100yd walk to pick up the free CDGVAL, which can take you right to your terminal for departure.
Trying to decide between the Ibis and the Ibis Styles right next door, I saw the Styles was offering free breakfast, which is 12euro at the Ibis. It all comes out of big corporate kitchens, but is good.
Thank you all for your replies/suggestions. I have booked a double room at Ibis Paris CDG Airport for $229, which is a lot cheaper than most other hotels nearby. I'm sure we will appreciate being near the CDGVAL tram.
We stayed at the Sheraton right in the airport. Walked from our room to our gate. It was more expensive but the convince was worth it. We are doing the same this September.
Ibis Styles is intended to be slightly up-market (and of course up-price). I don't know if this is true from personal experience. Staying in Roissy allows a wider choice of dining at neighbouring hotels than the airport can, but it is still going to be routine hotel dining and prices can vary considerably, especially for drinks. One useful Ibis characteristic is the small lobby bar which will serve patrons at all hours. "Near the airport" can also mean near the convention centre, which is not so near as it says. Roissy is close enough.
