Which arrondissement in Paris? & clothes

Hi friends,
After a 7 day Viking Rhine river cruise, with family group of 5 (84 year mother, who will fly back with my sister/ her husband ) sept-oct, 2025, my wife and I have 4 days, from Basel, Switzerland.
We will take a train from Basel to Paris. We will stay in Paris and visit Monet’s Giverny home. .
We both turned 60. Our last time in Paris, was 2012, with young kids.
Goal : relax, just our time together (so rare).

Wife’s idea : to see Notre Dame & the catacombs, which arrondissement is central to both attractions, for a hotel?

Any hotel ideas in that arrondissement?

My idea: I am interested in shopping fora linen- cotton blend pants for work. What middle level priced clothing stores would you recommend?

Merci

Draw a line between those 2 places and it goes straight up Bd St Michel, which splits the 5th and 6th arrondisements. A hotel in either one would work for your purposes, but I'd look for one with a Metro stop within a couple of blocks. We've stayed a few times at the Hotel des Grands Hommes, which is on the same street as the Pantheon. Have a look on booking.com for hotels in your favored area and within your budget.

When you say pants for work, do you mean heavy duty work pants, or pants for office use? Not sure how easy it will be to find cotton/linen blends in October. The stores should be full of winter wear by then. Maybe the clearance racks?

Clothes: Galeries Lafayette have both high-end and mid-priced men’s clothes and their selection is pretty incredible. My husband generally shops there when in Paris. He never fails to find something cool.

That said, the city is LOADED with options. If you want to brave a mall, head for Westfield Forum des Halles. There are tons of shops there at many price points, and I don’t think you’ll have difficulty finding something you like, in your price range. As a bonus, it is just a few blocks from le Centre Pompidou! So you can check that out, too.

I recently stayed in St. Germain (6th arrondissement) and loved it there. It was a 10 minute walk to Notre Dame, and easy to get to many other sites. The area is lovely, and you can walk through Luxembourg Gardens, or visit the multitude of cafes, patisseries, and boulangeries that are found in this area. It's such a charming neighborhood and so convenient to everything.

Hi friends,

Merci for your replies. We will draw the line as suggested. Re: pants, I am looking for something for office work, in summer like Mediterranean weather. Any ideas of clearance stores? What French brand names can I look out for?

La Vallée Village, an outlet mall for high end brands is just outside Paris.
My husband buys his clothes at Galeries Lafayette or our local shop for professionals. We don’t have a lot of bargain shopping in France. If you see what you want during your trip, buy it. You will be a couple months out-of-season for Mediterranean weight clothing. Our summer sales, whose dates are set by the government, are in July.
