At this point I'm assuming France will win its group which means I will be in Paris when France plays on June 30. Are there any special venues set up to watch matches or should I just find a local bar with a TV?
You don't have to worry about any of that in England. Or Spain. I don't know anybody who's watching the World Cup.... ...crying... ....crying...
There are tons of sports bars (and other bars) in Paris. My personal favorite is the Green Bay Packers bar, the WOS (Wide Open Spaces) pub on Rue Saint-Jacques on the Left Bank. Its small but friendly.
When we were there for the 2010 World Cup, they had a huge screen set up at Trocadero by the Eiffel Tower. It was really fun to sit on the grass and watch with 100's of others. Don't know if they have it there now.
In another thread, Kim (who lives in Paris) said they're setting up big screens at the Hotel de Ville (city hall). You might want to find a post from Kim and send her a PM if she doesn't respond here.
You'll have a great time! I was in Amsterdam for the Spain/Netherlands final. It was fantastic. They had big screens set up near the Van Gogh Museum. I didn't actually watch the game there, but we did wander through the area and had lunch and drinks in a cafe near by. The cheering, the drinking, the fun pre-game was great too. I watched the game with Dutch friends in the comfort of their home so we were able to mourn in private. :(

Also try to Hotel de Ville (city hall). They have a huge plaza where events are held.
Everywhere we walk in Paris these days there are cafes and restaurants with flat screens broadcasting all the games, not just the French matches.
Thanks for all the great suggestions.
