Where to stay road trip from Bayeux to Lens

We are staying in Bayeux for 4 nights then travelling to Vimy Ridge. I have a night booked in Lens but have one open night before that after we leave Bayeux. We are Canadians and are somewhat open to suggestions but wouldn't mind a drive along the coast (we will be there in July). Possibly stopping in Honfleur & Dieppe, maybe onwards to Calais and even Dunkirk.
One thought is to go as far as Calais that first day then on to Dunkirk the next morning before driving to Vimy Ridge and then our hotel in Lens that night before we go to Paris.
My question is where would be a good town to stay in - I'm not exactly thrilled with the accomodation in either Calais or Dunkirk.
I've looked and re-looked at the map and done many searches but I'm getting more confused. Any advice on a good days travel and sites to see and a pleasant town to spend the night would be appreciated. :)
Thanks.

Along the coast Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is nice, but touristy and as July is high season it will be busy there. More north Boulogne-sur-Mer has a nice historic centre and closer to Calais the countryside around Le Cap Blanc Nez is lovely with stunning views over the Channel, with clear weather you can see the White Cliffs of Dover. With hot weather it is best to stay near the coast as close as possible, otherwise a bit more inland historic Montrieul is worth to consider.

Thanks so much. All of those places looked great and very interesting. I've booked a hotel in Le Cap Blanc Nez area.
We hope to stop in a few places on our trip there from Bayeux. Will be a nice break to be by the sea before we head to Paris.
Thanks so much for your very helpful advice.
