We're planning on 3 nights (4 days) in the Nice area. Thinking of spending some time in Nice, Villefranche and Monaco. Would you stay in Villefranche and use public transportation to see Nice and Monaco?
Any hotel recommendations?

At what time of the year?
Also, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small town, Nice is a city: what kind of evening activities do you like?
Personally, I find Nice more interesting as a place to stay, but if you like your vacation to be more laid-back, then Villefranche is a good option.

I stayed in Nice, and used public transportation to get to Villefranche and Monaco… plus Antibes, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and more. Nice has more connections, restaurants, sights within the city, plus the best apartment for my stay. I was there longer than 4 days, so I had an apartment, which you could also find for 3 nights - unless a hotel was definitely the lodging you wanted.
