Where to stay near Fontainebleau/Château Vaux-le-Vicomte

My husband and I will be driving from the Dordogne to Paris (whenever we can travel there again) and would like to stop for a couple nights to visit the Châteaux of Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte. Any recommendations for a place to stay? A chambre d'hote would be nice. We are particularly fond of old and charming and not too expensive.

Thanks to AshleyMIA and brushtim (and Janet travels, of course) I was wondering about which nearby towns might be the best for a couple of nights. It did appear that Melun was not all that attractive. I had, indeed seen Janet travels' post on Moret sur Loing, which I found very interesting. I did find a chambre d'hote near Fontainebleau in Vernour-la-celle which looks lovely and is well priced. The catch may be that they accept 2 types of payment particular to France or at least the EU, which are not an option for me. I've been thinking to send the hosts an email asking if they will accept euros cash upon arrival or possibly a bank transfer. But I think I should wait until our plans are more definite for time of year. Once again, I rely upon and appreciate all the input on Rick's travel forum.

Visited it several times Fontainebleau is anyway a lovely pleasant place to stay and for walking around. I think the park (not the garden) around the château is free and daily open to public, but check out in case it is of interest.

In case you are looking for places to stay elsewhere good value for your money B&B’s are offered by www.gites-de-france.com . French equivalent for B&B is chambres d’hôtes and gîtes are rental houses. Always make use of them for many years and I never had a serious dissapointment. The cheapest can be a bit basic, nevertheless the welcome is always warm, rooms clean and breakfast good.
