We are arriving to Bordeaux one day earlier than expected (June 8th), and we can't find a hotel room available for that night. Could anyone recommend a nearby town that we should check out?
If you have a car, there are still rooms available in a variety of prices around the Bassin d’Arcachon. It’s a lovely bay to the west of Bordeaux with great restaurants, sand dunes and pine forests bordering the Atlantic. Approx 40 minutes from Bordeaux.
We’ve enjoyed long weekends here, and love the atmosphere.
We Rented a house for several nights several years ago a bit to the north, in Saint-Andre-de-Cubzac, birthplace and burial place of explorer and diver Jacques Cousteau, 8 or 10 miles north of Bordeaux. Not sure about hotel options for 1 night, though. There’s also Saint-Emilion, another wine destination, a bit farther east from there.
I loved St. Emillion -very easy by train.
