Where to stay in Sarlat de la Caneda?

We are driving through the Dordogne in May and will spend one night in Sarlat. I've read through all kinds of sites and when I think I've found something with character, close to the old town with parking I take a look at the reviews and they are so negative. Anyone have a really good experience with accommodations that you can share?

Susan,
We stayed at Hôtel Montaigne several years ago on the RS Loire/south France. We were very pleased with the location, well appointed rooms, quiet & great breakfast. I have no knowledge of parking availability. We were there on a Saturday to enjoy the wonderful market day. It was minutes away from our hotel. Hope this helps.

We stayed at Les Cordeliers. It's a B&B overlooking the market area. We did not have a car. The website says there is free parking nearby.

We were in a beamed room at the top, similar to #5. It was charming, but my husband ran into the angled ones a couple of times before he learned to avoid them. There were lots of stairs up, but well worth it for the view. Note that there are 7 rooms, but only 5 are clickable. I think ours was one not shown on the website.

We loved the little town, especially the area that is gaslit. The food was great, both the breakfast at the B&B and the restaurants the owners suggested.

If you click on Reviews, there's a little note by Rick. You can get to recent TA reviews and pictures. The website itself is old, but you can book on the website or email the owners. They are Brits.

Another vote for Les Cordeliers! We loved our spacious room with a big comfortable bed, nearby public car park, wonderful hosts and great location.

We stayed in La Villa des Consuls and enjoyed it. It's right in the Old Town and private garage parking is available near by (extra charge). We really liked the location and the manager was very helpful.
