What city and hotel should we stay at. We are traveling to Provence and arriving this Wednesday, the 27th of April. We would like to stay in the quaint and Charming City in Provence. Thank you for your recommendations
Hi,
Where are you arriving, exactly? Will you have a car? How long are you staying?
Without further information:
- without a car, Avignon
- with a car, Saint-Remy-de-Provence
Given that your trip is in 4 days and that we are in a school holiday period, I would just pick whatever well-reviewed hotel is available within your budget. In Avignon, Hotel de l'Horloge is pretty good and well-located, if they still have rooms.
Here's a little secret...a village called Lourmarin. It is in a beautiful area of Provence called the Luberon. It's about an hour's drive from the airport in Marseille, north of Aix-en-Provence. The fantastic villages of Roussillon, L'Isle il la Sorgue, and Fontaine du Vaucluse are all nearby. We stayed in a petit hôtel called La Cordiere. No large hotels in this quiet little village. Lourmarin has great restaurants, and is quintessentially French. Beautiful!
We had a car. Stayed 2 nights in L’ille Sur la Sorge and 2 nights in St Remy. Recommend both towns! Good location and good restaurants.
Wonderful towns. Great itinerary.
Of all the towns in western Provence we like St Rémy-de-Provence by far the best. Super charming, lots of places to eat, lots of fun shops, a great outdoor market. We stayed at Hotel du Soleil and absolutely loved it. Pool, great buffet breakfast, nice, clean rooms, free pkng, easy walk to shops.
This is not in the city, but we stayed in a lovely place in Crestet (near Vaison-la-Romaine). Ermitage is the name. A converted farmhouse overlooking Mt Ventoux. It was just wonderful. About 30 minutes to Avignon.
We used Gordes and St. Remy as our bases……LOVED IT
the OP left for France in April. Wish they would come back and tell us where they finally decided to stay.
Oh my gosh Donna, totally missed that important detail, lol. Yes, it would be nice if OPs responded to posters who tried to help. Maybe this thread will help someone else who reads this.
