Where to stay in Paris

I am looking for suggestions on what area to stay in Paris. Two mid sixties - We are here for the first time late October. We have 3 nights. We are good with using public transportation and walking.

Thank you.

There are probably hundreds of previous threads on Paris hotel recommendations. Here's a search, filtered for forum threads from the last year: https://search.ricksteves.com/?button=&date_range=1y&filter=Travel+Forum&query=Paris+hotels

Of course your budget will be a limiting factor. Or not.

A common recommendation is to look in the single digit arrondissements (those closest to the Seine). Failing that, look for a hotel that meets your priorities and is close to a Metro and/or bus stop. Personally, we prefer the Latin Quarter. Or the Marais.

I’ve stayed in 4 different hotels in Paris. One in the Rue Cler area , one near Montmarte , one near the Trocadero, and one just over the border from the 5th in the 6th. All were fine. However, in terms of walkability to major sights and pricing, the one in the 6th (Hotel Le Regent) was the most convenient. Metro station just two blocks away.

The excellent Metro system makes it possible to stay throughout Paris. I’ve found staying close to the Seine River convenient as most attractions are close to the river.

My favorite place to stay in Paris is Ile Saint-Louis, but it’s pricey so I’ve only stayed there once. I also like the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain-des-Pres.

Please provide a nightly budget in Euros. Are you arriving by air or train? If you're flying in to CDG do you plan to take a taxi to and from your hotel or will you use the train?

The previous posters have the Latin Quarter, Saint Germain and the Marais. All good locations for a first time visit.
