Where to stay in Paris?

First time in Paris and looking for suggestions for lodging in Paris for a family of 4; 2 adults and 2 kids (18 & 14). Planning to stay 3 days and not sure if Airbnb or hotel is the way to go?

Without some more information it's hard to advise specific hotels.

What is your nightly budget in Euros for 2 rooms or a 2 bedroom apartment and when will you be traveling?

While there are a lot of great areas to stay, for a first time visit to Paris I recommend staying within about a 15-20 minute walk of Notre Dame in the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements.

For only 3 nights, I would suggest 2 hotel rooms. You'll have 2 bathrooms and a manned front desk to answer questions and point you in the right direction. Booking an apartment/Airbnb requires much more diligence.

If you're traveling between May and September, make sure you have air conditioning.

Look at the Citadines hotels. They have some 2 bedroom suites, all have kitchenettes and laundry facilities.

Check out the AirBnB options in Vincennes. It's the eastern terminus of the Metro "1" line, and it's 10 min or so to get to the Hotel de Ville de Paris. Prices are much more reasonable than in the center of Paris.

Keep in mind that Paris hotel rooms are notoriously small. They work just fine, just have reasonable expectations.

I like to stay close to the Tuileries and the metro. I like the Hotel Moliere and have used it multiple times. It's near two Metro stops, and a 5 minute walk to the Louvre. The service is excellent. The Sofitel over by the Place Concorde is also very good, but more expensive.

Note that June is high season and places are already selling out.

I like booking.com to get suggestions but I also book through booking. However you can use booking for research only and then book directly with lodging.

One of my hobbies apparently is spending way too much reading, social media posting about travel. For that reason, I would never use Booking.com to actually book a hotel or apartment.

On the apartments they make Airbnb look like a professional, well managed organization and that’s far from true. I’ve seen so many people who’ve gotten completely scammed by booking apartments. The other thing that strikes me asproblematic is how many scam emails people seem to get after they use Booking.com. I’m very conscious of this cause I work in the cyber security field, but it’s just too big of a coincidence how many people will get an email but when they investigate discovered it really wasn’t from the hotel asking for additional information, etc. I’ve even seen them asking for wire transfer instead of your credit card. It’s just scary in my opinion.

Having secured lodgings through both booking.com and AirBnB, I'll take the latter every time. We've rented probably 40 places in 15 countries using AirBnB, with only one truly disappointing experience. Exceptional track record IMO. Booking.com has been a crapshoot, with about as many misses as hits.

I have used booking.com many times and been satisfied. Others on this forum use booking and also seem to be satisfied.

Some members have reported issues but I have not had any except for the last vacation which I believe was something that I did wrong. I made a mistake which did get resolved.

Myself, I am always just looking for a hotel room and it is for just myself. Looked at Airbnb but there is usually a cleaning fee which I find very high for just me.

OP could use booking to get suggestions and then book directly. Does not have to book through booking.

oh i think it's better to forget about airbnb or hotels the prices there are very high. you can try to book directly on the company's or host's website so it's way cheaper but the conditions are the same :)

if it's helpful we stayed with https://www.parisvacationsrentals.com/ nice experience actually! it was our first time booking like this and it completely worked out for us

I would approach short term rentals with caution as there are many illegal, short term apartments. The owner risks a 50,000€ fine and forced removal of the apartment from short term platforms. You risk losing the accommodations that you thought you had.

Using online platforms for hotel research is fine. However, unless you are booking a corporate chain hotel, I recommend booking directly with the hotel using their own website or calling.

Apartment/hotels are a good option. You may want to check these:

What Tocard said.
I love apartments but no longer rent one in Paris due to the strict regulations.

In Paris, I prefer the 5th and 6th arrondissements…I like to be near the RER B stations to get to and from CDG airport.
Of course in Paris you are always near a metro station or a bus stop…..wonderful transport around the city.

My favorite areas to stay are the Marais, and Ile St Louis. Both in the 4th arrondissement.
