where to stay in Chamonix

I was wondering whether any of you could recommend a clean one or two star hotel in Chamonix near the Hotel Chalet Hermitage. We are staying there but at the last minute, my son asked to join us. He is 19 so he really doesn't need a lot of luxury. We just need someplace within walking distance of the Hotel Chalet Hermitage that is clean. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as the Chalet Hermitage just informed me that they are fully booked during the time we had originally booked our room for two.

We have also stayed at Hotel L'Arve and enjoyed it very much. That was back in 2018. We were traveling independently but there was a Rick Steves tour group staying there at the same time. We will be in Chamonix next year for a couple nights and chose the same hotel. It's friendly, clean, conveniently located and has a great breakfast buffet. The common areas include a nice lounge with a fireplace. Our room had a great view. And the cost was very reasonable. After we checked out, we wanted to do some hiking before moving on to our next destination and asked if we could keep our car in the parking lot even though we were no longer guests. Not only did they allow that, but they offered us the use of hiking poles and told us that if we wanted to use the showers and towels in their spa area to freshen up after our hike, before our drive, we'd be welcome to do that. The hotel has singles, which could be an economic stay for your son. It looks like it's about a 12 minute walk from the hotel where you will be.

Thank you so much. Very helpful. Will keep fingers crossed that they have availability at this late date.

Hotel Vallée Blanche is a bit closer and on the same side of the river as the Hotel Chalet Hermitage. Liked this hotel very much, right on the river.

Thank you for that suggestion. I had called the Hotel de L'arve and it was sold out so hopefully I will have more luck with this hotel.

I tried both places but they are booked. If anyone else has a suggestion please chime in. I've spent a few hours trying to find a place and no luck so far.

You’ve probably already done this but suggest you contact the Hermitage and inquire if they have a family room, larger room or extra bed available. If not, maybe they can direct you to a hotel with vacancies. Hope it works out for you.
