Where to stay in Antibes? Antibes or St. Tropez

Hi Everyone!

We're a fairly fit couple over 60 and will be ending an 8-day biking tour (if my knee holds out:) in St. Remy in Provence in mid June. We want to rent a car there. Then we'll be looking for a b&b or boutiue-y type hotel in probably in Antibes within walking distance of a nice sandy beach, where we can rest a bit for four days before heading back to the States. Rick Steves talked about the best beach being between the port and Cap Antibes, but we don't know where that is! We don't know which port he means....Ideally we'd like to find a place in the Old Town. We've never been to France before.

Also, would it make sense to pick Anitbes over St. Tropez? We don't like a lot of tour buses, etc....

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it!

In St. Tropez the chairs at the cafes are usually in a line facing out to the sidewalk... it's about being 'seen':)
It is some fun shopping and they do have a nice market, but it is definitely 'chic'. When I have stayed in the area I have been in a house in Gassin. It is a nice little hilltop village not too far from St. Tropez. There are also a few hotels in Gassin and a number of wonderful restaurants.

Thank you so much both of you for your replies. I'm excited about visiting and learning some conversational French-taking a course.
