I am looking at lodging for the 3 of us to tour areas around Strasbourg and into Germany. I was considering staying in Strasbourg, but is there a better location? Would like to be able to walk to the train stations for many day trips. Suggestions? Thanks!
Three of us (older females) stayed in a triple room (a double and 2 twin beds, one of which was an upper bunk over the double) in 2022 at the Ibis Budget across the street from the train station. I chose it for cost and it is certainly not fancy, but it suited and was very convenient.
Thank you! I was actually talking about which town or village.
Strasbourg is a great location. It all depends where you want to go on your day trips. We stayed there for five nights in June and took day trips to Colmar, the wine villages, and Gengenbach, Germany.
Edited to add that the first part of my trip report below might be helpful. Colmar is the other logical base in the area.

When is this trip? I ask because am OP warned about French train strikes this December. Safe travels!
When? Because if you are thinking in the new 45 days you're too late. Anything good is long since booked.
Outside of Strasbourg I suggest either Freiburg (if you're going to look around Germany and south) or Hagenau (for the Alsace-Lorraine and north). Both are well connected via rail/public transport to Strasbourg and other cities within the region.
If you stay in Strasbourg, I recommend getting a place in the old section of town. Altho it is not right next to train station, it is lovely, and you can take a tram to the train station easily. Strasbourg itself is worth spending some time exploring. Peter
