Where to stay Alsace

Hello,
Hubby and I will be in the Alsace for 3 weeks late August/early September. We want to visit the small villages of Alsace, taste wine and also visit Basel Switzerland and venture into Dijon/Burgundy. We will not have a car. Where would be the best place to stay for 3 weeks Mulhouse or Colmar?? Thank you for your help!

In Alsace I would stay in Strasbourg and also one of the small, charming villages on the Wine Route like Riquewehr.
We only have visited Alsace one time but have stayed in Beaune or the surrounding villages in Burgundy several times. Beaune is a perfect base. We visited Dijon from Beaune and liked it too.

I agree with Suki - Strasbourg is a good location to base yourself in Alsace since you do not have a car. The trains there will go to many of the smaller towns in Alsace that you can day trip to.

Personally I would choose Colmar over Mulhouse. It is more centrally located to explore the charms of Alsace. As to Strasbourg or Colmar, Strabourg is definitely a bigger city with more congestion but better transportation connections. Colmar is smaller and more manageable with a more charming vibe. It depends what you value in your travels.

For an upcoming trip we will be staying in Eguisheim for two nights and Colmar for four nights. We will have a rental car and chose Colmar for being less congested. From it we will take day trips. We’ll take a train up to Strasbourg.
