Where to stay 3 nights in Provence/Cote d'Azur

Hi,

I'm traveling as part of a group of 3 from Amsterdam to Paris for a 17-night trip this summer. After spending 3 nights in Paris, we plan to take the train to Avignon and spend 3 nights in Provence/Cote d'Azur. I realize the geographic area of the regions is large, so we definitely need to focus on a smaller area. We plan to rent a car in Avignon. From Provence/Cote d'Azur, we are taking a train to Lake Garda (5 nights) via Verona. I've noticed that it is possible to begin the rail trip in Nice, but what are your recommendations for how best to get to Lake Garda.

I would say in a small town in the Rhone Valley and see what little I could in the 2 days available. It makes no sense to divide that tiny time period up into 2 destinations.

This plan does not get you to the Riviera, however. If that is your priority, spend your 3 nights there.
