My husband and I will be in France in Mid-October, staying in Paris for a few days, then renting a car and driving to Lourdes. Can anyone recommend an interesting area to stop for a day or two n between? Maybe somewhere in the Dordogne? I’m not at all familiar with that area so looking at the map doesn’t really help me. We are looking for somewhere 4-5 hours southwest of Paris. ( but not near Bordeaux... we are headed there after Lourdes! ). Thanks!
Is there any reason why you are driving to Lourdes instead of taking the train?
Anyway, good options are indeed the Dordogne, about which I'm not too knowledgeable, or further north, La Rochelle is worth a stop too, and so is Cahors / the Lot valley further south.
The westerly route via Bordeaux and the easterly route via Toulouse are equivalent in driving time, but the latter is more scenic.
