Where to spend the night? Chartres? Orly? Paris?

Need itinerary help! We will be doing a day trip to Chartres, from Paris. The next day we fly out of Orly. Need recommendations on whether to spend the night in Chartres, spend the night near Orly, or go back into Paris to spend the night. Suggestions? Thank you!

Just spend the night in Paris.

What time is your flight out of Orly?

Oh gosh, yes. I agree with Kim. I'd not bother to move hotels for 1 night and I'd just get the hotel to arrange a cab for the next day.

Trains back from Chartres run until 9 or so ( and somrtimes later, depends on day of the week), so you have all the time you need for a day trip to Chartres! No need to check out of your Paris hotel.

A cab to Orly from Paris is cheap and convenient. Do Chartres as a day trip and spend the last night in Paris.

Hi from Wisconsin,
I am usually in favor of spending the last night at the airport if hotels are available. But a 2PM departure means you should arrive at 11AM. Being at the airport all that time would be a waste.

You could spend the night in Chartres. It is under three hours to Orly from Chartres. It is an hour two minutes once the train moves at Chartres to Montparnasse, then a 15 minute walk to Defert-Rochereau (Google says to take a bus...I would walk, it is pretty much a straight shot)), where you get the bus to Orly that takes 24 minutes.

I am a nut for Chartres. The cathedral in the changing light of the day makes several trips inside each worth it. Seeing it at night lit up along with the other large churches is wonderful.

However, being in Chartres and flying out the same day would add some stress. How well would you sleep with that ahead of you?
